I got side tracked to the web sites in the first entry on the art from books! Go look at these images, the child in you will rejoice. The work of Sue Blackwell reminds me of one of my favorite permanent exhibits in the Mingei Museum of Folk Art in San Diego, "A Palace for Wednesday." Thank you for the list of books. I now have to get my books by mail from the library and, sadly, none of them are on the list so I am unable to order them. I will copy the list, though, and if possible, get them another way.

Darlene---Several books on the list (including Leigh's) are quite popular, so if you ask your librarian, maybe he/she can find a copy for you. Almost all are available through Amazon, of course. The fact that you tried to find them is sure to warm the hearts of authors on the list. As I've said many times, you're a peach!

Love book lists, and like most librarian types, I'm always on the lookout for good mysteries - the proverbial escape literature. I have bookmarked this for future reference. Thanks - seems like I return three out of four books out of five after reading only a few pages these days. Either I've become more discriminating or good writing is becoming a lost art.

Judging by the quality of writing of many bloggers who read Birds (including yourself), I would expect books written by our readers to be very, very good. So far, I've read several on the list:
1. Perfectly Healthy Man---Loved it, but might be biased because I know the author. This is romp of a mystery is filled with wry wit, lots of characters and a convoluted plot that leads to a surprise ending. My book club raved, and they're very picky readers!
2. Dead End---Whoa, a thriller! Not for the squeamish! Five pages in and I couldn't put this one down. Leigh knows her police procedure, which sometimes leads to dead ends, as well as dead bodies.
3. Pop Culture---I laughed, I cried, I shook my head in agreement and disagreement with what this iconoclastic, in-your-face writer had to say about contemporary life. Under-40s will especially like this one.
4. The River of Forgetting---This book may change the way you think about post-traumatic stress disorder, and may even change your life. I know it helped me move forward with healing some old wounds. It's Jane's sensitivity and candor that make book a gem in its genre.
