Regarding the wave of social pathology we’re seeing in the US these days – with the new Arizona immigration law just the tip of the iceberg -- here’s some good, bad and ugly news.

First, the bad and the ugly:

1. If you send your kid off to an out-of-state prison, he might come home a racist fascist. Who knew?

2. Speaking of racist fascists, you may not have heard this story but here’s how three New Mexico 20-somethings spent last Saturday night (Thanks for this, Leslie.):

Now, the good:
3. In spite of the story above, the Land of Enchantment has a totally different social climate than its neighbor Arizona due, in part, to the wisdom of Gov. Bill Richardson, plus centuries of Hispanic culture embedded in every aspect of life.
I love Bill Richardson, the ultimate pragmatist. I also love New Mexico, and this story makes my heart sing. Ola, Antoinette!

AS you know, I am violently against the mean spirited anti-immigration law. There is a lot of racism in Arizona and it is disgusting. I would move to N.M., but it would be further away from my family.

Unfortunately, there is a large population of right wing people in the Phoenix area and they are the ones who elect those dim-witted Republican legislators that we are stuck with. They are a Conservative religious bunch that only vote their radical ideology.

I hope they are learning their lesson as even the Republican National Convention has chosen Miami instead of Phoenix as the city where they will hold their convention. Jan Brewer has done untold damage to our state by signing that terrible bill.

Interesting NY Times article. I've always liked NM better than AZ. I used to live in the Phoenix area and totally concur with Darlene. NM celebrates their diverse culture and appreciates them. Thanks for the link.

Bill Richardson was my candidate for President. If not that, I wanted to see him as VP. If not that, Secretary of State. I was disappointed all around. But New Mexico is blessed with a great leader!
